Dragões defeat Belenenses 3-1

By: j | February 1st, 2009

Jesualdo Ferreira’s Porto maintain their first place standing with 3-1 victory over Belenenses Sunday evening. This sets up a titanic clash between the Azuis e brancos and Benfica, Estádio do Dragão next Sunday.

The Dragões took the lead twenty-one minutes into the match as Mariano González’ cross was re-directed into the goal by ex-Tokyo Verdy man Hulk. Porto doubled the margin only a minute later as Cristian Rodríguez soared high to head-in Lucho González stunning long-range cross. However the hosts weren’t about to back down and eleven minutes before break Belenenses pulled one back with a brilliant attacking play and finish by Saulo, bringing the score 2-1. Lucho González rounded out the scoring with a slick finish four minutes before the end to bring the match to its final 3-1 scoreline. If there was a downside to the match for Jesualdo Ferreira’s side it was Jorge Fucile being expelled with his second yellow with two minutes remaining.
