Naval 1º Maio defeats Porto
By: j | November 1st, 2008
Jesualdo Ferreira’s Porto seems to be the place where dreams come true this campaign as week after week, they seem to dip to new lows. While the pre-match press conference noted improved level of concentration, like the previous loss to Leixões, Porto did not display intent or focus and lost 1-0 to Naval 1º Maio. Quite obviously Porto was unable to finish their attacks and Naval 1º Maio’s defensive plan strangled all efforts. Nine minutes after the break Daniel Lopes Cruz scored the lone goal of the match to the delight of their home fans and give his club a deserving victory.
The loss sends the Dragões to fifth-place in the table, although they could drop further with matches tomorrow and in the midst of a three-match losing streak including the Champions League. They return to the pitch on Wednesday against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League and need to address this seemingly lack of intent quickly or the Ukrainian squad will slice them apart.
Naval 1º Maio
Peiser; Carlitos, Paulão «cap.», Diego Ângelo e Daniel (Godemeche 59′); Lazaroni, Baradji e Alex; Davide (Michel 77′), Bolívia e Marinho
F.C. PORTO:
Nuno; Cristian Săpunaru, Rolando, Bruno Alves e Nelson Benítez (Hulk 46′); Fernando, Raul Meireles, Tomás Costa (Pelé 71′) e Lucho González «cap.»; Cristian Rodríguez (Tarik Sektioui 59′) e Lisandro López
For those looking for a match preview I apologize that it wasn’t released but unfortunately Word Press has a mind of its own and regardless of how many hours you devote to posting, things seem to disappear. So while my “preview” never was posted, I had a copy and reposted it just before this summary given its relevance

What is going on in Portugal? What’s next? Sporting wins the Champions League?? Hey, why not, everything else is upside down.

Mike – thanks for joining in and I like your blog.
It certainly has been a odd year hasn’t it and Porto isn’t playing up to par.
