Porto defeats Associação Académica de Coimbra 2-1

By: j | December 1st, 2008

Porto defeated Associação Académica de Coimbra 2-1 in a hard-fought match today at Estádio do Dragão. Uruguayan international Cristian Rodríguez gave Dragões the 1-0 lead twenty four minutes into the match with a perfectly placed header off a free-kick into the box. The visitors fought back with resolve and ten minutes before the half Cris brought os Estudantes level as he was left completely unmarked for a point blank shot to the far corner.

Loyal azuis e brancos supporters rose to their feet as former Tokyo Verdy-man, Hulk drew a perfect cross back to Raul Meireles. The Portuguese international slid for a perfect volley into the net. The visitors continued to fight but were a man down after Modou Sougou was shown the red-card three minutes after the hour and the match concluded with Porto winning 2-1.

Porto returns to action next Sunday against Vitória de Setúbal in fifth place with seventeen points.
