Rio Ave match preview

By: j | September 20th, 2008

After a brilliant triumph in the the Champions League against Fenerbahçe this week, Jesualdo Ferreira has turned the clubs attention to their match against Rio Ave in the northern Portugal town of Vila do Conde. The club came out relatively unscathed from the match and from all accounts looks very focused for the immediate task at hand.

In his pre-match press conference Jesualdo Ferreira noted the success of the Champions League match related to proper match preparation with the added week of rest after international play. He equally mentioned Rio Ave has some talented young players, noting Gaspar, Evandro and Niquinha in particular and that they can be a very difficult opponent and one you should “respect but not fear.”

Rio Ave, managed by João Eusébio, has shown in the first two matches of the season a commitment to playing good fundamental Football and not making foolish mistakes in the advances. In their 1-1 draw to Benfica they all-but eliminated the threat of the counter and did a surprisingly good job at controlling the play of Pablo Aimar.

Jesualdo Ferreira has listed the following players for the match:
Nelson Benítez, Bruno Alves, Candeias, Farías, Fernando, Helton, Hulk, Lino, Lisandro López, Lucho González, Mariano, Nuno, Pedro Emanuel, Raúl Meireles, Cristian Rodríguez, Rolando, Cristian Săpunaru, Tomás Costa.

I will report on the match once it concludes.
